The Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a strong warning to motorists to avoid speeding, especially during the ongoing road construction projects across the territory.
Speaking on the matter, DRTS Director, Abdulateef Bello, highlighted the increased risks of road accidents during the festive season, often attributed to speeding, drunkenness, and other unsafe driving practices.
Bello noted that the Christmas and New Year holidays typically bring an influx of visitors to the FCT, many of whom may not be familiar with the roads. He urged such individuals to exercise extreme caution to ensure their safety and that of other road users.
“There are no excuses for driving without a valid driver’s license, using overburdened or rickety vehicles, or engaging in behaviours that endanger passengers,” Bello emphasized.
To enhance safety and compliance, the directorate’s operatives have intensified road surveillance across the FCT, ensuring motorists adhere to traffic regulations.
This call to action underscores the DRTS’s commitment to fostering a culture of road safety and reducing accidents during this festive period.
Stay vigilant and drive responsibly to protect yourself and others this holiday season.
